Since you're shooting 4x5, I don't think grain is too much of a concern. I've never used Microphen, though I imagine the results would be somewhere between DD-X and XTOL.

Learn More9/9/ · The last time I pushed Ilford HP5+ 400 to 1600 was back in January 2020. The images came out ok, but my mistake was that I didn't rate or overexpose the film, and I had set it to 1600, where I should have rated the film to 800.
Learn MoreI often push HP5 to 1600 and 3200 in Ilford LC29 developer, and usually get pretty good results. However, I am not making prints-- just scanning the negatives. I don't know how well these would print in the old-fashioned way. For pushing to 1600, I use dilution 1:19 for 14 minutes, 20C. For 3200, dilution 1:9 for 11.5 - 12.5 minutes.
